Tips for Moving with Pets

Moving can be stressful for the whole family, especially your pets! Pets can easily experience anxiety and stress from unexpected activity in their home, travel and new environments. Every pet is unique, but here are a few tips that may make the moving experience a bit smoother for your beloved companion(s).

PACK A PET BAG

Packing a bag for yourself? Why not pack one for your pet, too! Assembling a simple ‘overnight kit’ with food, bowls, kitty liter, toys, leashes and grooming tools will help keep your pet comfortable and cared for during the first few days of your move.

CONTACT YOUR VET

If you’re moving out of the area, it’s a great idea to take records and any prescription medications with you. Your current vet may even have a few recommendations for a vet in your new neighborhood.

SEND THEM ON A MINI-VACA

Removing your pet from the chaos of the big moving day is a great idea! During the move itself, keep your pet in the quietest area possible. You could even board them for the day, or send them to play with a friend.

KEEP THEM SECURE

Your pet won’t be familiar with your new home, or your new neighborhood. Slowly introduce them to their new surroundings and give them a few days to adjust. Make sure to keep your pet secured with a leash or kennel until they are more comfortable in their new spaces.

UPDATE THEIR INFO

Once you’re in your new home, make sure to update tags and microchip info with your new address and phone number.
