The Jimmy Buffett song, One Particular Harbor, always comes to mind each time I return home. There’s nothing better than waking up in the morning and the first view you have through the windows is our peaceful lake.

A few minutes later, while sipping that all important first cup of coffee, the stillness of the water, has a wonderful effect on one’s mind. Then suddenly an Osprey crosses over the house at Mach 2, slams into the water with no fear, and fly’s away with its morning meal. They’re such majestic and beautiful birds to watch.

Not much later, the lake begins to come alive. A few fishermen show up, slowly working the shoreline for their elusive prey. By lunch time, you hear the joyful voices of People, riding tubes, skiing, or paddling kayaks around as if pretending to be Huckleberry Finn.

As the sun starts to set, Boats begin to tour the lake as stillness comes once again. No one dares to go very fast. It would ruin the relaxing effect of being on the water. Sound carries well over still water, and you can hear the drifting voices of contentment.

The most glorious part of this experience is the next morning before the sun breaks the horizon, you get to start all over again.
